Portfolio Selection

We have selected 32 projects for our web portfolio, 4 from each of the 8 sectors that we most often work in: 1. Individual houses; 2. House extensions; 3. Residential developments; 4. Historic building conservation; 5. Education; 6 Church repairs and reordering, 7.Community schemes and 8.Commercial developments.

For each project there is an A4 sheet of photographs and text that can easily be downloaded in pdf format for your reference, HOVER OVER THE SELECTED PROJECT ICON AND CLICK DOWNLOAD.

The illustrated projects are representative of our work over the last ten years but there are others that are not shown which may be of interest to you so please do contact us if you have any questions either by e-mail, fax or telephone. Most of our work is in the Midlands area however we can easily undertake work in other areas, recently we completed detailed drawings for a large house extension in Ealing and design work for a 53 unit housing scheme near Bishops Stortford. A summary of our selection for each sector is outlined below

1. Individual houses
The 4 projects shown include 3 new houses and one remodeling of an existing house; in all of them we strove to meet our client’s aspirations in terms of style, layout and form and also their budget. We have designed houses that range in construction cost from £350,000.00 up to £1.9 million ex vat and each set of requirements has generated an individual solution. We designed a highly insulated very air tight house that was recently completed in Edwalton and are currently overseeing a very contemporary house on site in Ruddington.

2. House Extensions
We have chosen 4 extensions that aim to demonstrate the variety of designs we have completed but there are many others in Nottingham that we can show you on many different houses types, the project values range from £15,000.00 up to £400,000.00 ex vat. Usually we are involved from the outset to completion often obtaining contractors quotations and liaising with subcontractors for fitting out of bathrooms, kitchens and finishes. We always enjoy a challenge whether this is working with a sculptor or following a design theme provided by the client.

3. Residential Developments
Two of the schemes shown, Crich and Exton are for 7-8 new houses in rural settings where the form and style of the properties needed to reflect the local vernacular. The developer saw the benefit of including a mix of house types whilst retaining a consistent design language throughout. The Community home in Burton Joyce has 10 bed sitting rooms with shared dining and living for those over 65 that prefer not to live alone and finally the design layout for the Orchard was a village development of 53 homes that is yet to be built

4. Historic Building Conservation
Our conservation work has been mainly undertaken by Bruce Bradley who is AABC accredited. He has gained experience since 1988 when he was project architect on an Elizabethan Manor house in Cheshire; this was followed up with a Diploma at Demontfort University in Historic Building Conservation in 1996. Currently we are the appointed on 14 listed church buildings in the Southwell Diocese. We have also worked on listed residential properties, recently at The Dorothy Boots Alms houses in Wilford and an early Georgian country Vicarage in Caistor, Lincolnshire.

5. Education
The 4 projects shown include a reception classroom and nursery alteration to an existing school and a complex fast track project to merge two primary schools into one for Nottingham City Council, a new contemporary arts faculty building with additional social areas for Grantham College and a large new teaching block for Nottingham Trent University, all quite different in scale and scope and value ranging from £100,000 to £5.5million ex vat

6. Church Repairs and Reordering
Reordering can involve as little as the relocation a font to a complete rethink of the way a church is used. At the larger scale costing around £ 300,000.00 ex vat Watnall Baptist church included a new gallery, baptistery, social areas and kitchen and at St Helens the removal of the pews, a new floor, kitchen, sound and lighting systems and a new way of entering the church. At Holy trinity Lenton the emphasis was on access for all with entrance ramps and accessible facilities for people with ambulant and wheel chair disabilities. St Nicholas Tuxford was about creating a flexible area within the church for wider community use.
